It's been so long since I last illustrated a Punisher piece. Probably a combination of my current distaste of the MCU and what the comics did to Frank Castle along with just me trying new things with my works... oh, and, of course, taking on client works to keep myself alive.
Alas, we're here finally with a new one, and I really, really hope y'all like this! This piece is more of a reimagining of the Punisher and his rival Jigsaw from the 2005 video game than anything else. Also... a combination of the classic comic book look, white gloves and all, with the more grounded, tactical aesthetic that I honestly wish would have been the focus of the Jon Bernthal version from the Netflix series. Always felt like that take on Punisher was handled a thousand times better in his Daredevil appearance where he was often armed to the teeth.
Went for military-esque surgical gloves along with having the skull insignia (more ghostly this time around) drip onto the mags and pouches at the front. The vest now has a distinct shape that emphasizes an actual plate underneath, too. Semi-segmented for better freedom of movement. Does any of this make sense? I have no idea, but I like to think it works fine overall, especially at a strictly visual point of view. After all, with all these comic book redesigns I've done, I've always tried to still keep in line with the comic book look while adding my own touch of grit and pseudo-realism to it all.
As for Jigsaw, this is certainly what I would have loved to see in the Netflix adaptation... and not turning Billy Russo into a pathetic shell of his former self with barely any scars. My version of Jigsaw is one that refused proper medical treatment and decided to stitch up his own face by himself, simultaneously developing an obsession with his newfound look, sometimes even adding more scars to his face just for the heck of it.
Anyway, I've yapped long enough.
Enjoy the illustration!!!!!!
God bless!!!
